Both Polyisocyanurate (PIR) and Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) are rigid insulation materials commonly used as the core of sandwich panels.

Insulated polyurethane panels are roofing structures composed of three layers: two outer skins, typically made of metal, with a core of polyurethane foam sandwiched between them.

PIR panels have better fire resistance due to the additional isocyanurate rings, making them more suitable for areas where the risk of fire is higher. PUR panels, on the other hand, have greater flexibility, which can be an advantage in applications where the material needs to conform to irregular shapes.

PIR insulation is almost entirely found in the form of rigid boards. This means that their application is limited to flat surface use, such as floors, walls and roof rafters. PIR insulation is not suitable for awkward angles and shapes.

Depending on the internal working conditions and the temperature differential with the outside environment, cold rooms may require thermal insulation in the walls, ceilings, and sometimes the floor.
